Car seats are impractical.

Car seats are impractical.

Seriously, I spent months designing them and still have a hard time installing most of them. Traditional car seats are difficult to install and are often so heavy to carry parents are forced to keep babies low and further away, when all they really want is to keep them safe & close.

The many faces of comfort.

Designing a new way to carry a car seat meant understanding what it feels like to hold something close to the body, especially after giving birth. Between surgical scars, location, and potential preexisting limitations, we needed to consider a wide range of bodies and sensitivities.

Balancing comfort and the impression of the car seat still being safe was a difficult challenge. Through extensive physical prototyping we explored different carry positions testing them with a 20 lb weighted baby doll.

From insights to form.

Based on our physical models, we let the carry systems drive the form of the car seat. We had to fold in the Maxi-Cosi brand language as well meaning our form needed to showcasing warmth and safety. This car seat, especially because of its unfamiliar carry style, needed to convey a mix of comfort & strength.

Our final form factor kept the balance of close hold and necessary safety alive. parents can hold their child however feels most comfortable for them while remaining assured their child is protected both in and out of the car.
