Speaking Engagements

  • IDC 2022

In 2022 I was invited by the IDSA to present at the International Design Conference in Seattle, WA. My presentation was “Community & the future of design”. From the writeup:

As the world moves forward with new technologies, more consumer awareness of "good design,” and a push for inclusivity from younger generations with the highest buying power, industrial designers must adapt and grow their design and design research methods. This talk will cover how incorporating community into design research and design networking can help keep the field growing and ultimately improve product design outcomes for all.

  • Outsiders on the Inside

I was invited to join a panel for Outsiders on the Inside, a series by Loft Designs. From the writeup: The industrial design industry is predominantly male lead which leaves very few women in leadership positions. A recent report from Design Allyship noted that in the UK alone, product and industrial design are male-dominated professions at 95%, with women making up only 17% of all design manager positions. We'll be digging into this issue and so much more in this intimate panel featuring three women working to change the industry from within.

  • Being X Design Allyship: Imposter Syndrome

As part of the Advanced Design & Design Allyship Dialogues series I was invited to be on a panel with colleagues Roxana Ghani and Jonathan Kim discussing Imposter Syndrome. From the writeup: “Have you ever felt as if you weren’t good enough for your career? Or that you didn’t belong on your team? Or that you don’t deserve the praise you get from your peers? Then you may have experienced imposter syndrome. Imposter syndrome plagues creatives at nearly every stage of their careers— from school and well into their careers as practicing designers. It has the ability to debilitate creativity and productivity, seed self-doubt, and restrict risk-taking.

But what is imposter syndrome really, and why does it impact some designers more than others? Join Design Allyship and Being for their first collaborative panel discussion on the impact of imposter syndrome, and how the intersection of marginalized identities can lead designers to feel like an imposter. We’ll hear from three designers from different backgrounds who have found methods to overcome imposter syndrome and fight it in the industry.

  • Thought at Work: RIT

Invited by the student lead group at RIT, Thought at Work to speak on how to get inspiration from outside of the design world.

  • Women in Industrial Design Panel

Along with Morna Gamblin, I planned and hosted the Women in Industrial Design panel with guests Caterina Rizzoni, Ti Chang, Danielle Chen, and Jeanette Numbers. This was an exclusive event in 2021 where women & non-binary industrial designers were invited to watch the panel discussion and then participate in smaller group discussions. This was an event made to help people speak about their experiences as well as network.
